The history of Charlieu is inseparable from that of its Abbey.

Founded in about 875 by Benedictine monks from Touraine, the Cluniac Abbey contributed greatly to the development of Charlieu.

Amongst the other treasures in Charlieu, we should mention Saint-Philibert church with its 15th century painted wooden stalls.

Flirting with nearby Burgundy, the town of Charlieu and its exceptional heritage invite you on a journey back in time.

Thanks to an original route in its picturesque streets, you will stroll between stone and half-timbered houses. We appreciate also the museums: Musée Hospitalier (Hospital museum) and the Musée de la Soierie (Silk museum).
