On board the barge l’Infatigable, take a cruise along the canal. With a commentary or with meals served on board, several formulas are proposed departing from Briennon.
The 56 km long canal has 10 locks and makes it possible to join, at Digoin, the whole of France’s network of waterways (canal alongside the Loire, canal du Centre, etc.).

For a long time devoted to the commerce which promoted its development, the port of Roanne is today an all-mod-cons river stop for pleasure boaters. Situated in the very heart of the town centre, it offers an ideal starting point for discovering the town.
After Roanne, the tranquil canal continues to Briennon and its delightful church with a Romanesque tower (glazed polychrome tiles). From there, you will be able to go behind the scenes of the life of the bargee and the river boatman thanks to a history trail between the canal and the Loire. On board the museum barge, Dhuys, you will acquaint yourself with the intimate world of the bargees: engine room, hold and wheelroom will no longer hold any secrets for you. |
